About carmen.games
carmen.games is a fan-built archive dedicated to the classic Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? MS-DOS series. We preserve the games, document them in a community wiki, write guides for new detectives, and make the classics playable in the browser through the open-source js-dos emulator.
Playing a game here means this site serves that game’s data to your browser — there is no other way to run it, and it would be dishonest to describe these titles as merely referenced. Nothing is sold and nothing is offered as a download. These games have been out of print for decades and the point of the archive is that they stay playable; if you hold the rights to one and would rather it weren’t here, write to the archive and it will come down.
Accessibility statement
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. Every page uses semantic HTML landmarks, a skip-to-content link, visible keyboard focus, and colour contrast checked against the AA thresholds. The interactive globe and ticker are keyboard-operable and respect prefers-reduced-motion; decorative motion stops entirely when reduced motion is requested. If you hit an accessibility barrier, tell usand we’ll fix it.
Privacy & students
We collect the minimum needed to save your game: your name and email from Google sign-in, plus your save states and progress. To keep the archive online we use Google Analytics (with IP anonymization) to measure traffic, and game pages may carry contextual, non-personalized ads to cover hosting and bandwidth. We never sell your data and never build advertising profiles of students. You can export your saves and delete your account and all of its data at any time from your profile. See our short version on the sign-in page.
Terms of use
carmen.games is provided as-is for educational and preservation purposes. Be excellent to other detectives: no abuse, no attempts to disrupt the service, and no uploading content you don’t have the rights to. Accounts that break these terms may be suspended.
Images & credits
Box art and title screens on this site are the publishers’ own, reproduced small and attributed to identify the specific release — the way any fan archive or catalogue does it. Most of the scans and every emulator screenshot come from the Internet Archive, whose MS-DOS Software Library preserves these games; a few covers come from Wikipedia. Nothing here is presented as our own artwork, and per-file provenance is kept with the source code. If you hold the rights to an image and want it removed, write to the archive and it will come down.
