Five languages on one cartridge

The 1992 Sega Genesis conversion of Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, developed by EA Canada for Electronic Arts, opened with a language-selection screen offering English, French, German, Italian and Spanish — one cartridge serving several European markets at once rather than separate regional SKUs.

Japan: PC Engine CD-ROM², 1990

A Japan-exclusive edition of the original game reached NEC's PC Engine CD-ROM² add-on in 1990, licensed out by Brøderbund and published domestically by Pack-In-Video. It's one of the more obscure entries in the platform history — a US educational game about world geography, released only in Japan, on optical media, years before the rest of the series moved to CD-ROM at all.

Brazil and the Master System

Brøderbund's Brazilian licensee Tec Toy published a Portuguese-language localisation of the Master System conversion for the Brazilian market, part of Tec Toy's much larger catalogue of translated Master System titles for the region. As with several Tec Toy releases from the period, an exact publication date isn't consistently documented across sources; it's generally placed in the mid-1990s.

A Spanish-language DOS release

A full Spanish-language localisation of the original game, titled Dónde, en el Mundo, estará Carmen Sandiego, also circulated on MS-DOS and survives today in preserved form. Beyond that it existed, a reliable release date for this specific localisation isn't established in the sources available, so none is given here. Taken together, these editions make clear the series travelled well beyond English-language markets, even if a complete catalogue of every regional release isn't fully documented anywhere in one place.
