Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?, in production

Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? premiered on Fox's Fox Kids Saturday-morning block on February 5, 1994, and ran four seasons and 40 episodes before concluding on January 2, 1999 — its final stretch airing on the Fox Family Channel after Fox Kids wound down. It was produced by DIC Productions (also credited as DIC Entertainment), with director Joe Barruso helming seasons one through three and Stan Phillips taking over for the fourth. DIC president Andy Heyward described the show's visual approach as mixing “CGI, classical cel animation, computer graphics, live action, film clips, [and] different styles of cel animation,” and the theme song adapted a melody from Mozart's opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

The cast

Rita Moreno voiced Carmen; Scott Menville and Jennifer Hale voiced ACME field agents Zack and Ivy, later reused as characters in Junior Detective Edition; and Rodger Bumpass voiced the Chief. Guest voices across the run included James Avery, Jim Belushi (as a version of Paul Revere in the episode “A Date with Carmen”), and Tim Curry (as the villain Dr. Gunnar Maelstrom in “Retribution”).

Recognition
